Electronics and Technology Policy

YMUN Brasil cherishes the live collaboration fostered by the MUN simulation and believes this is best implemented with minimal technology usage. In all committees, upon entering the committee room, all delegates will be provided with a label to affix to their phone and asked to place their phone inside a box that will be kept by the dais until the end of that committee session. 

In crisis and specialized committees, the use of electronic devices (e.g., laptops) is never permitted unless given prior approval by the Director-General of Committees. All directives and crisis notes will and should be written on the notepads provided to all delegates.

In General Assembly (GA) and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) committees, cell phones may never be used, however, laptops may be used only for writing working papers and draft resolutions. During formal debate, the use of any electronic device is strictly prohibited unless given prior approval by the Director-General of Committees.

**Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

YMUN Brasil recognizes that AI is becoming an increasingly prominent component of the diplomatic landscape, and we firmly believe that all students should learn to responsibly use AI. However, MUN stands out for its unique focus on our creativity and collaboration to solve problems, which are inherently human traits. As such, YMUN Brasil will tolerate zero AI usage for writing working papers, draft resolutions, directives, crisis notes, and position papers. If any AI usage is detected for any of these purposes, the delegate is subject to disqualification from awards as determined by the Director-General of Committees.

YMUN Brasil emphasizes that while AI can be helpful in finding data sources, it often misconstrues information available online and should not be the sole source used for research. Delegates are strongly encouraged to do their own research for committees. If AI use is suspected in writing notes in preparation for the conference, the delegate is subject to disqualification from awards as determined by the Director-General of Committees. In order to ensure all delegates are reflecting upon their notes and research prior to the conference, in addition to submission of position papers, delegates are required to submit a one-page, handwritten summary of their research in the language of their committee. This should be submitted during the start of the first committee session and will be a requirement to be considered for awards.

Preparation Policy

Delegates may bring printed reference materials to committee sessions, provided they are not generated by AI. YMUN Brasil strongly discourages pre-writing speeches; the dais can typically identify pre-written content, as it tends to lack adaptability and spontaneous engagement. Furthermore, pre-writing any portion of a crisis note, directive, draft resolution, or working paper is strictly prohibited. Delegates found engaging in pre-writing face potential disqualification from awards, subject to the discretion of the Director-General of Committees.

Working Outside of Committee

Delegates are strictly prohibited from discussing committee strategy, drafting documents, or collaborating outside of official session times. Upon a motion to suspend debate, all discourse and writing must cease until the chair formally reconvenes the committee. Any delegate found violating this policy may be disqualified from awards, at the discretion of the Director-General of Committees.

Language Policy

To ensure an equitable environment where every delegate can fully participate, all committee communications must be conducted exclusively in the committee’s official designated language. This policy applies to all formal speeches, caucusing, and drafting. Delegates in English-speaking committees must use English at all times, and the same standard applies to Portuguese in Portuguese-speaking committees. YMUN Brasil recognizes that navigating a second language can be challenging. If you have any concerns about your language proficiency, your dais is eager to support you throughout the conference.

Behaviour Policy

YMUN Brasil is an inclusive environment in which all delegates are expected to treat one another, as well as the advisors, conference staff and hotel staff, with respect at all times. If a delegate is found to be engaging in bullying, harassment, or discrimination towards other conference attendees or staff during or outside of committee sessions, they are at risk of expulsion from the conference as determined by the YMUN Brasil Senior Secretariat.

Food & Drink Policy

Per the venue's policy, no food consumption is allowed inside committee rooms. Only drinks inside a closed, sealable container may be brought inside committee rooms. There will be water fountains outside committee rooms where delegates can refill their water bottles.

Observation and Photography Policy

YMUN Brasil welcomes registered advisors to observe debate from the back of committee rooms, space permitting, except during voting procedures. To maintain focus, advisors must refrain from moving around the room or speaking to delegates during the session. Advisors may take photos of their own delegates, but flash photography and loud equipment are strictly prohibited. YMUN Brasil’s internal media team will capture high-quality, professional photographs of all committees, which will be distributed after the conference. Please note that advisors may be asked to leave the room at any time by the committee director.

***Dress Code Policy

Western Business Attire (WBA) is the required dress code for all delegates throughout the duration of YMUN Brasil. Delegates are expected to maintain professional attire during all formal events, including all committee sessions as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

Outside of formal proceedings, delegates are welcome to wear appropriate casual attire. This includes jeans, sneakers, t-shirts, and similar clothing. As a gauge for what is appropriate, we ask delegates to only wear clothing that they would be permitted to wear to school. We strongly encourage casual attire to include YMUN Brasil merchandise, which can be purchased during the conference.

During the breaks between committee sessions, delegates should expect to stay in their WBA attire. Casual attire is only encouraged during end-of-day informal events, such as Karaoke & Talent Show Night and Delegate Dance. Otherwise, WBA is expected.

Delegates are expected to maintain a neat, polished, and professional appearance at all times while in conference spaces. Accessories should be minimal and non-disruptive to the formal setting. Failure to comply with the dress code may result in restricted access to committee sessions or other conference activities unless a prior exemption has been approved by the YMUN Brasil Senior Secretariat for documented personal, religious, or accessibility-related needs.
